June 1st 2005 While Birmingham has certainly written an interesting book, it simply wasn't as enjoyable as other similar books, despite its more realistic handling of its subject matter, and while I'll probably read the sequels, they aren't a priority. This book nicely illustrates my own interests, as well as This book nicely illustrates my own interests, as well as Like a movie, the book opens with a countdown concentrating on the bevy of characters that will make up the core of the story. Unfortunately, the two fleets do major damage to each other before the 21st century officers realize they’re all ostensibly friendlies, and then manage to convey that message convincingly to the 1942 Americans. In the book a modern battle fleet travels back in time to WWII and starts to change history.

The difference this time around is thaI have taken to rating books against others in the same genre and Weapons of Choice by John Birmingham blew me out of the water. Makes for an incredible novel and I can not wait to read the rest of the series. The Americans and Allied cannot have all the fun. And that's funny coming from an Australian. The present day forces are a US led multinational naval force from the year 2021, so of course they have all sorts of racial and gender mixed crews that surprise and even offend the people of 1942.

With Christopher Walken. Took me a little while too get into this. I took a chance on it, thinking it might fall into a Turtledove trap of a) repeating character traits non-stop, b) being noticeably ghostwritten or c) sucking. Highly Recommended!!! We arbitrarily flip back and forth between every ship's viewpoint to get a first hand account of the launching of just about every piece of ordinance. Their arrival sets off a series of dramatic shifts in the conduct of the war as both sides are suddenly presented with advanced military technology (to their delight) and (to their horror) the bizarre futuristic sailors and soldiers (of mixed races and genders) who wield it. Published I quite liked it, a mix of SF and historical novel. Some of the story flowed rather fast; other parts just dragged on and on. “Weapon of Choice” is linked to fellow single “Star 69,” with both tracks being released as a double A-side single from Halfway Between The Gutter and the Stars.. I enjoyed how it touched on issues surrounding race, ethnicity and societal attitudes clashing with the future attitudes.

Directed by Jino Kang, Tony Urgo. Based on true events.A desperate rabbit rallies an unexpected band of allies to help him escape from inside a magician's hat and return to the human boy he loves. While investigating a murder, a detective is drawn into a battle between the visible world and an underground realm inhabited by mythical creatures. Being a history buff and a SF reader, I was just hoping for a fun read. He is also quite competent in giving the different viewpoints (axis/allies, future/past).In the book a modern battle fleet travels back in time to WWII and starts to change history.

It's really the only alt-history series I've been able to get into, for good reason. It’s January 2021, and an international task force headed up by the USS Hillary Clinton (a George Bush class supercarrier), is off Indonesia, responding to a political crisis caused by the overthrow of the legitimate government and its replacement by the extremist Caliphate.

I actually put the book down for the better part of a month because I was increasingly annoyed at the vulgar stupidity of the down-time characters (Birmingham doesn't seem to be much of a fan of the "Greatest Generation," painting the locals as nothing more than close-minded bigots, which seems rather annoyingly unfair, especially given the amount of world-shaking social change they managed to adapt to in their time). I originally bought the paperback version and struggled to get past the original translation event because the book was too bulky to carry around so i kept losing my thread between reading sessions as I've got to that age that when i open a book at bedtime i'm usually asleep before the page is done. I honestly don't see the "pulp fiction" in this book that other reviewers claimed to notice. Instead of thrusting a random group of characters in the middle of an historical conflict, he thrusts a random group of characters in the middle of an historical conflict while, at the same time, narrating the plot from some very well-known figures in American (and other nationalities) history.John Birmingham is a master of alternate fiction. I've started the second book in this trilogy and it's looking good so far.The premise of the trilogy (a near-future naval group is thrown back in time to 1942, ending up scattered all over and everywhere, although mainly staying together) is interesting, but what I want to know is: "What's the point? Weapon of Choice Fighting Gun Violence While Respecting Gun Rights. I took a chance on it, thinking it might fall into a Turtledove trap of a) repeating character traits non-stop, b) being noticeably ghostwritten or c) sucking. Because of the haste with which the task force was thrown together, they’ve got with them a research ship that had to come along with its protective escort—no time and no spare forces available to send it off to a safer distIt’s January 2021, and an international task force headed up by the USS Hillary Clinton (a George Bush class supercarrier), is off Indonesia, responding to a political crisis caused by the overthrow of the legitimate government and its replacement by the extremist Caliphate. He currently lives in Brisbane.“an intriguing puzzle that diverted him from the unbearable burden of living.
